<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">　見上げると冬の月が照る群青の夜空。そこに葉の落ちた裸の枝が、黒い影となって湾曲した模様をうかび上がらせる。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">　足元に目をやると、月から降り注ぐ青白い光が、漆黒の大地をまだらに彩る。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">　一歩踏み出す。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">　積み重なった枯れ葉が軽い音を立てた。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">吐いた息が白い蒸気となって視界の端を通り過ぎる。同時に顔の横にかかる髪の房が揺れるのも見て取れた。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">　顔全体を張りつめた冷たい空気が抑えつけてくる。きっと自分の頬や鼻の頭は赤く色づいていることだろう。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">　―――このままここにいると、凍傷になってしまうかもしれない。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">　そんな風に思えてしまうほど、この場の空気は『痛い』。あまりの冷たさを皮膚が誤認して、痛いとしか思えなくなっているのだ。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">「『―――はい。とても……痛いです。わたし、泣いてしまいそうで―――』と彼女は言っております」</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">　『痛い』という言葉の連想から、最近読んだ小説のある一章を思い出し、その中に出てきた台詞を呟いて――――いや、『通訳して』みた。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">　それまでの全くの無音だった夜の闇に放たれた言葉。言葉は私の耳と周囲の空間にしばらく残留したのち、静かに溶け去り、消える</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">後には何もない、耳を圧するような沈黙だけが、延々と続く。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">何とはなしに作中の台詞を口にするという行動。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">薄闇と静けさの中に置かれると、やらなくてもいいのに省みてしまう。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">そうすると、中二病と名高い作家が生み出したキャラクターのまねをしてしまう自分が、なんだか妙に痛々しくて、苦笑をこらえ切れずに口もとを歪ませてしまう</span></div>

<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">　どうやら自分は思っていたより深くあの小説を嗜好していたようだ</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">作中でその台詞を口にした登場人物にシンパシーを感じてしまったからだろうか</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">彼女は不思議な程に自分に似ていた</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">他人から外れていて、それなのに、いや、それだからこそ、変なところで拘りを持っている</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">一見すると人形に見える意地っ張りな存在不適合者・・・・</span></div>

<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">『存在』不適合者だなんて自分に似た人間が呼ばれて、自分の存在そのものが否定されたような気がして、ついそんな風に口にしてしまう。　</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">自分に対する言葉ではないし、そう言う意味で言ったのではないのだろうけど、</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">その、どこか浮ついた中身の感じられない作中用語の語感に反感を覚えずにはいられなかったのだ。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">きっとこうやって、他人には理解不能なことで熱くなってしまう所が彼女に似ているのかもしれない。</span></div>
<div style="margin:0mm 0mm 0pt;text-indent:10pt;" align="left"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:#000000;">私は彼女の中に自分を見てしまったのだろう。胸の中の親近感もそれゆえに違いない</span></div>
